Cold therapy or cryotherapy is one of the first lines of treatment for acute muscle injuries, ligament injuries (sprains) and tendon injuries with haematoma, oedema and inflammation. Cold reduces oedema and inflammation by reducing tissue blood flow and relieves pain by slowing down nerve conduction. It is recommended in case of acute muscle, tendon or ligament trauma: during the first 48-72 hours.
